Studio C Architecture LLC contracted with the Housing Authority of Yamhill County for the design of a new 56-unit affordable workforce and special needs housing project in Newberg, Oregon. In addition to the design, Studio C prepared the documents needed for a comprehensive map amendment and zoning change that was vital to the project’s feasibility. Studio C also successfully led the team through the public hearing process.

This design includes seven new, wood-framed buildings of varying scales. The buildings are organized around a historic house and many heritage Oregon White Oak trees. Complex rain gardens are used to provide extensive on-site stormwater management to mitigate poor soil infiltration. All buildings utilize advanced framing techniques coupled with envelope upgrades and efficient fixtures to meet Earth Advantage Gold Certification performance standards and to minimize resident utility bills.

The project was completed in July 2014.
